The Promise Farm project is special to us because it was our personal home. We transformed a dated 1990s Cape Cod-style home into a modern beauty while preserving its timeless farmhouse charm. The renovation began with replacing the orange pine hardwood floors on the main level with clear matte white oak, setting the tone for a clean, sophisticated palette. We reimagined the entry by relocating the front door and installing a double-door entrance, eliminating the previous awkward layout that led directly into a staircase.
A major structural change involved removing a large load-bearing wall to open up the living room and kitchen, where we added custom cabinetry, quartz perimeter countertops, an oversized island with black leathered granite, a custom plaster hood, and ZLINE appliances. The laundry room access was reconfigured to allow for a spacious walk-in pantry directly off the kitchen. The staircase to the second floor was rebuilt with white oak treads and modern black iron railings. Upstairs, the bonus room became a children’s oasis with built-in shiplap bunks, while a newly designed archway now connects the main living space to the bedroom hallway. The guest bathroom was refreshed within its original footprint, featuring custom cabinetry, marble flooring, quartzite countertops, a vessel sink, and a fully tiled shower with a frameless glass door.
In the primary suite, we removed a dated jacuzzi tub and replaced it with a large walk-in shower featuring dual rain heads. Vanities were upgraded with custom cabinetry and quartz countertops, and the master closet was expanded for added functionality. The basement was completely reimagined into an open flex space with a custom kitchenette—including cabinetry, a sink, and refrigerator—and the basement guest bedroom was converted into a private en suite with a large, fully renovated bathroom featuring bench seating in the walk-in shower, high-end tile, and custom finishes.
A major focal point in the living room is the rebuilt fireplace, replacing a short, undersized version on a tall wall. We designed a new full-height fireplace clad in neutral-toned stone with overgrouting, added a reclaimed wood beam mantel, and installed realistic ventless gas logs. Additional windows were added on either side of the fireplace to bring in natural light, and the old French doors in the dining room were replaced with a large picture window.
Throughout the home, we elevated the lighting with warm-toned, high-end fixtures and used a single, soft white paint color on walls, trim, and ceilings to create a sense of continuity and brightness—allowing the cabinetry colors, custom woodwork, and natural materials to truly shine. Our focus throughout was on natural light, warmth, texture, and timeless character.
