The White Cottage Lane project was a one-of-a-kind renovation and addition for a multi-generational family compound with deep sentimental roots. Originally home to two cottages on one lot, the family had lived together for several years until the main cottage—charming but compact—no longer suited the needs of the next generation.
When the younger family moved out, the grandparents took the opportunity to reimagine and expand the main home, creating a welcoming retreat for holidays and gatherings with their grown children and grandchildren. We opened up the back corner of the home to add a spacious dining room, a second living room, and a screened-in porch—seamlessly integrating new square footage while honoring the cottage’s character. Inside, we transformed the original living room by removing the walls flanking the fireplace, creating a gracious flow into the new addition with French doors for optional separation.
The new living space features custom reclaimed wood ceiling beams and a cozy new fireplace wrapped in brick and shiplap. To further enhance the home’s charm, we redesigned the dormers and added alcoves in the guest rooms—blending form and function with a touch of timeless warmth.
